Hey, Disney family! 👋
Let's cut through the chaos, shall we? You want the REAL scoop on Disneyland Paris meal plans - not just the stuff you can Google in 2 seconds.
I visit DLP every 4-6 weeks (I know, tough job but someone's gotta do it), and I've tested EVERY meal plan option so you don't have to waste your precious park time figuring it out!
🍽️ The Meal Plan Basics: What No One Tells You
First up - meal plans are NOT just about saving money. They're about:
Having one less thing to stress about
Spreading the cost of your trip
Getting your fave character dining without the last-minute shock to your bank account
Knowing exactly what your holiday costs BEFORE you go, and spreading the payments across the year before for you eager bookers!
BUT (and it's a big but) - they're not for everyone.
🧇 The Plan Breakdown (With the ACTUAL Truth)
Breakfast Only Plan
What it includes: Just breakfast at your hotel
Who it's for: People who snack through the day or want to eat wherever catches their eye (and want to fill up in the morning)
The real talk: This is the cheapest option but honestly? Not worth it unless you plan on making the MOST out of your hotel breakfast.
Half Board Plan (Standard, Plus, or Extra Plus)
What it includes: Breakfast + 1 meal (lunch OR dinner)
Who it's for: Most families! This hits the sweet spot.
The real talk: This is what MOST of my clients choose. You get structure without being tied to a schedule all day.
Full Board Plan (Standard, Plus, or Extra Plus)
What it includes: Breakfast + lunch + dinner
Who it's for: Foodies who want to try it ALL or families who want zero food stress
The real talk: Great value but can feel like your day revolves around mealtimes. Not ideal if you want flexible park days. (A LOT of food, and lots of time outside of the park)
🍕 How to Get the MOST Out of Your Meal Plan
Listen up, because this is where the REAL magic happens! Your meal plan is like a little golden ticket - but knowing how to use it makes ALL the difference.
Lunch and Dinner Strategy
Table service and buffets give you WAY better value than quick service spots
Use your vouchers for the most expensive meals possible (hello, Chez Rémy!)
Quick service meal? Save your voucher and pay out of pocket for that one
Lunch bookings are often easier to get than dinner (same food, less crowds!)
The Buffet Advantage
Buffets = unlimited food = maximum value for your voucher
Plaza Gardens Lunch Buffet, Pym Kitchen, Downtown = feast like royalty
Perfect for families with different tastes (picky eaters + adventurous foodies)
No waiting for courses or service - more time for rides!
Picky Eater Alert!
If your whole group is super picky, meal plans might NOT be your best friend
You can grab nuggets, burgers or pizza from kiosks way cheaper
But if it's just one picky person in a group of foodies? Buffets solve EVERYTHING
The Under-3 Hack
Little ones under 3 aren't covered by meal plans (sneaky Disney!)
BUT at buffets, they can eat from your plate for FREE
WAY better value than buying them separate meals at table service spots
This alone can save you €15-20 per meal per toddler!
🧠 Bonni's Meal Plan Hacks (The Stuff I Tell My Clients)
Mix and match: Book half board, pay out of pocket for extras or snacks!
Voucher magic: Meal plans come as vouchers - use them strategically on expensive meals. (these are uploaded to your app, and in paper form if requested)
Under-3 hack: Kids under 3 eat free at buffets, so if you have a toddler, buffets are always the best value
60-day booking window: Set a reminder! Restaurants open for booking 60 days before your stay.. BUT most restaurants can be booked from the outset upto a YEAR in advance. Some evening meals, will release later down the line as we wait for official park opening hours.
Book late lunch, not dinner: Restaurants are less busy at lunch, and the menus are often identical
🍗 My Top Restaurant Picks (Not What You'll Find on Google)
For Families with Kids:
Plaza Gardens Restaurant Buffet Lunch (no characters): Buffet with TONS of options, character breakfast and dinner available, and central location
Restaurant Colonel Hathis Outpost: Quick service with actual good food (the currys!!)
Bistrot Chez Rémy: The theming is INCREDIBLE and kids are mesmerized by it
For Couples or Adults:
Downtown: Hard to book but worth it for the atmosphere
Walt's - An American Restaurant: Beautiful, quieter, and feels special
Bistrot Chez Rémy: Yes, it's on both lists because it's THAT good
For Character Experiences:
Auberge de Cendrillon: The princess experience! Book your slot on booking onsite or cry forever. Opens 3 days out for offsite guests!
Plaza Gardens Character Breakfast: Most characters in one meal. Book your slot on booking onsite or cry forever. Opens 3 days out for offsite guests!
Royal Banquet: Character lunch/dinner in the Disneyland Hotel. Pricey, but the only place to guarantee our favourite mice couple!
🍦 Is It Actually Worth It? (The No-Fluff Answer)
YES if:
You have kids and want to minimize decisions
You're planning 1+ character meals
You like to know costs upfront
You're a planner who's happy booking in advance
NO if:
You're a snacker who rarely sits for full meals
You're only planning on theme park food
You have picky eaters who might waste full meals
💁♀️
How to Book the RIGHT Meal Plan
Start by planning which character meals (if any) you want
Count how many days you're staying
Decide if you want all meals covered or just some
Calculate if Standard/Plus/Extra Plus makes sense for YOUR must-do restaurants
For my clients, I often recommend:
2-3 day trips: Half Board Plus
4-5 day trips: Mix of Half Board and Full Board
Family with princess fans: A Princess Breakfast
Adults only: Half Board and character dining!
🎯 Bottom Line (Because I Keep It Real)
Meal plans aren't about saving massive amounts of money (although they can save you, if you use them correctly)- they're about convenience, planning, and ensuring you get the dining experiences you want without the shock.
The BEST plan is the one that fits YOUR family and YOUR priorities.
